Civilian Conservation Corps
The Civilian Conservation Corps helped build the roads, retention walls, trails, and other buildings that make Letchworth a lovely park. These hard working men and perhaps women, were employed by a Federal Government initiative during the Great Depression to put people back to work. Because of their contribution, they are honored at the park with an attractive statue. Several elderly men at my daughter's church, Rochester Christian Reformed Church in Penfield were part of this Civilian Conservation Corps and have told her of about their experience with the Corps during those hard times. Being employed by the Corps helped them and their families make it during that time of horrendous unemployment and lack.
