La Bombonera in Old San Juan

Though La Bombonera may not be fancy this narrow coffee shop/ restaurant/bakery right in the center of Old San Juan offers you excellent coffee of all types, really good food at the right price, and a whole lot of history and tradition for free. To top that off it is the best place for those fluffy sweet breads called mallorcas which make your mouth water just talking about them. La Bombonera is located on 259 San Francisco Street, east of the Plaza Colon. You won't want to miss this truly traditional bakery that is more than 100 years old. You will find that it is open to the wee hours of the night and during lent you can get traditional Spanish food. I had a lovely experience and have that extra pound to show for it. Don't miss it!
