Sopita de arroz con leche

Milk and rice soup. Today, I miss, mom fussing over me and making me some "sopita de arroz con leche." I don't know if it was the horse slobbering my hand (which I later washed with a generous lop of hand sanitizer, maybe MSG in the sausage patty I had at Peach Valley, or perhaps a virus, but yesterday I was ill in the afternoon and this morning more of the same. A tightening of my stomach, etc. and I called in, said I could not go into work, which I think was the right call because I probably would not have made it through the day and definitely not the drive to school. So here I am, waking up three hours later, a little better and wishing mom would make me some of that "sopita de arroz con leche." But mom is in the nursing home and it is out of the question. It always made me feel better, especially remembering her standing over the stove, stirring the rice, and it sometimes bubbling up in a white balloon somewhat like it is doing right now. So I ran over, popped it and stirred. Not ready yet. The rice has to be on the verge of disintegrating and it wasn't salty enough. So I added a couple of spoonfuls of water and some milk and have to wait another 10 to 15 minutes at least. This is trial and error you know with a lot of fuss added as a tender ingredient. Mami, gracias por todo ese amor. Mom thank you for all the love, even in the simple minute things we often take for granted, when no one thinks anything has happened. If you have loved someone, be encouraged.

Note:

I researched sopita de arroz con leche and found this blog with several good recipes. It's Recetas de la Abuela. In other words, Grandma's recipes. It hasn't been updated since 2006 but recipes never grow old, do they? Do a Ctrl + F1 and type in sopa de arroz con leche in the box that should appear on the bottom of the page. She also has a nice Mangu recipe that sounded good, too. Perhaps when the "weather" is better.
